When I began to build my first BTMs (Basic terran module) I realized that I had no 32x32 baseplates, just 32x16 ones. So I decided to make my modules with two 32x16 baseplates. But I didn't fix them permanently, as two 32x16 elements could be combined to form a BTM in many ways. I can add more variety on my BTMs with this system. For example, I have these six 32x16 elements: Now, If I combine these elements I can get many different types of BTM, it is a more flexible way to built different modules with less parts:
